Irgendwie ist das ja beängstigend... Teil 1

In diesem Artikel nimmt Walter A. Davis die Psyche von Fundamentalisten unter die Lupe - und es ist beängstigend! Ich meine, der Mann hat selber eine gwisse Ähnlichkeit mit Nosferatu, aber trotzdem ist seine Analyse, soweit ich das beurteilen kann, verdammt zutreffend. Wer schon mal mit einem Fundamentalisten eine Gespräch geführt hat versucht hat, ein Gespräch zu führen, wird da so einiges wiedererkennen.

WA Davis erkennt vier Grundüberzeugungen, die alle fundamentalistischen Christen haben:

(1) Inerrancy or biblical literalism, the belief that every word of the Bible is to be taken literally as the word of God; (2) conversion or the experience of being reborn in Christ; (3) evangelicalism or the duty of the saved to spread the gospel; and (4) Apocalypticism or Endism, the belief that The Book of Revelations describes the events that must come to pass for God's plan to be fulfilled.

Also: (1) Der Glaube an die Unfehlbarkeit der Bibel; (2) Sie sind "in Jesus wiedergeboren" worden; (3) Sie müssen versuchen, andere von ihrem Glauben zu überzeugen; (4) Die Apokalypse ist nah.

Der Unfehlbarkeitsglaube hat für WA Davis nur einen einzigen Grund: Das Leben einfach zu halten. Keine Mehrdeutigkeiten oder Unsicherheiten, keine komplizierten Antworten, alles klar und einfach. Man kann sein Gehirn ausschalten, muss nicht versuchen, verschiedene Aspekte einer Sache gegeneinander abzuwägen, nein, man zeigt einfach auf eine Bibelstelle und schon sind alle Fragen beantwortet und man kann sich beruhigt zurücklehnen.

Literalism is the first line of defense of a mind that wants to put itself to sleep. [...] It is the great protection against a world teeming with complexities. Literalism offers a way out, a way to keep the mind fixed and fixated at its first condition. The way: the refusal to comprehend anything that exceeds the limits of the simple declarative sentence. Two reductions thereby feed on one another: the world is reduced to facts and simples; the mind reduced to a permanently blank slate.
Fundamentalism feeds on and fosters this reduction of the mind to the conditions of the immediate. For in fundamentalism literalism is raised to the status of a categorical imperative. It is the law that assures deliverance from all confusion. There is a single text, the Holy Bible. It contains clear, simple direct messages-proclamations - that establish the Truth once and for all. All of life's questions and contingencies are resolved by statements that are beyond change and interpretation. Literalism reduces reading and interpretation to the Cratylean dream: one need only point to the appropriate passage and "Pouf" all doubt and ambiguity about what one should think, believe, or desire on a given situation vanishes. One need no longer wrack one's brain or one's heart or live in the terror that the world exceeds one's grasp.

Literalism is a cardinal necessity of the fundamentalist because it guarantees the primary psychological need. For a certitude that in its simplicity puts an end to all doubt, even to the possibility of doubt. That is what one must have and once attained what nothing can be permitted to alter. The literal meaning of words one need only point to for that meaning to be established must be imposed on the world without a blink of hesitation, a shadow of doubt, and when necessary beyond any appeal to the simplest claims of our humanity.

Hatred -- of all complexities; of anything that can't be reduced to the simplicity of absolute dogmas and the need to impose that hatred upon the world in a totalizing way.

Zuerst dachte ich ja, nun übertreibt er ein bisschen. "Hass" scheint ein ziemlich starkes Wort zu sein, in diesem Zusammenhang. Aber wer die Reaktionen von Kreationisten auf alle(s) sieht, die/das im Gegensatz zu ihrem Weltbild steht, dem geht früher oder später wirklich das Wort "hasserfüllt" durch den Kopf.
Z. B. bei meinem "Liebling" Todoroff:

biologe2 - personifiziertes Symbol des Endes der Aufklärung, Feind des Lebens,Feind der Menschheit, dumm wie ein Stein.

Kein Paradoxon widerlegt.
1+1=5 behauptet - ab in die Klappse.
Angenehmen Tod in der Hölle.

Das Recht ist eine schöne Braut, so sie in ihrem Bette bleibt.

Vater im Himmel, wir danken Dir für Deine Liebe.

wie wahr!

Todoroff ist soundso ein Musterbeispiel für einen fundamentalistischen Christen. Er ist ja auch "wiedergeboren", vorher war er genau "wie wir", oder womöglich noch VIEL böser, hat den gleichen Irrglauben angehangen, bis er dann Jesus in sein Leben gelassen hat.
